Phone Number Validator

Is that number a customer gave you real — and is it written the way your CRM, your ads platform or WhatsApp expects? This free phone number validator checks any number against the official numbering plans of every country (using Google's libphonenumber, the same library Android uses). Paste a number with its country code, and you will see whether it is valid, which country it belongs to, whether it is a mobile, landline or toll-free line, and its correct formats: international, national, and the strict E.164 form (+countrycode number, no spaces) that ad platforms, CRMs and messaging APIs require. Validation happens in your browser — numbers you check are never uploaded or stored.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste the number, country code included if you have it.
  2. Add a default country if the number has no code.
  3. Click Validate number.
  4. Read validity, country, line type and the E.164 format.

Worked example

A lead's '0300 1234567' with default country PK validates as a mobile and converts to +923001234567 — the exact format WhatsApp and ad platforms accept.

Frequently asked questions

What does "valid" actually mean here?

Valid means the number fits its country's official numbering plan: the country code is real, the length is right, and the starting digits are allocated to the line type claimed. That is the strongest check possible without ringing the number — a valid number can still be disconnected or belong to someone else, but an invalid one can never be reached. Platforms like Meta Ads, Google Ads and WhatsApp apply this same style of validation before accepting a number.

What is the E.164 format, and why do systems ask for it?

E.164 is the global standard for writing phone numbers: a plus sign, the country code and the national number, with no spaces, dashes or leading zeros — for example +14155550132. Because every country writes local numbers differently (trunk zeros, brackets, extensions), E.164 is the one unambiguous form computers use to route calls and messages. If a CRM or API rejects a number, converting it to E.164 with this validator is usually the fix.

Can it tell whether a number is mobile or landline?

Yes, where the numbering plan separates them — which is most countries. The type result distinguishes mobile, fixed line, toll-free, premium-rate, VoIP and a few other classes. That matters practically: SMS and WhatsApp only reach mobiles, so a "valid" landline in your lead list still will not receive a text campaign. In a few countries mobiles and landlines share ranges and the honest answer is "fixed line or mobile".

Why does it need a default country for some numbers?

A number without a country code is ambiguous: 0300 1234567 is a valid-looking local number in several countries at once, with the leading 0 being a local trunk prefix that must be dropped internationally. If the number starts with +, no default is needed — the code identifies the country by itself. Otherwise, tell the validator which country to assume (two-letter code like US, GB, PK, IN, AE) and it interprets the number by that country's rules.
